Braden Holtby, born September 16, 1986, is a professional ice hockey goalkeeper who plays for the Washington Capitals.
He is a Canadian professional ice hockey goalkeeper and currently plays for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). Drafted by the Capitals in the fourth round with a 93rd overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He was born in Canada in Lloydminster. He is one of the most recognizable names in the world of ice hockey.
Holtby spent his junior career in the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Blade struggled through the first two seasons and last WHL season after being drafted by the Capitals in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Draft entry, Holtby’s jump to professional hockey, and a split season between ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays and Hershey Bears’ American Hockey Bear. Holtby led the team to the ECHL All-Star Game in which she won 7/12. His performance continued to be very good in every game he played, and also after an impressive playoff as a starter, he was rewarded for having started as goalkeeper for the 2012-013 season by new Washington coach Adam Oates. During that time, he made a record 66 appearances in the entire season. Holtby won the 2016 Figina Award, awarded to the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
